Book Critiques/Evaluations
Book critiques and evaluations can be for a number of purposes; and it is really the purpose which determines the job. For example, a publisher may send a book to me to be critiqued for the purpose of getting a take on a new author or editor. (In this case, I may see a before and after.)
It is important to note that a critique is not a book review. A critique is an analytical device whose purpose it is to ferret out negative and positive aspects of the material in question. Ultimately, it is a teaching tool. Most books which are sent for a critique are books in progress; and they generally come with a specific question or set of questions regarding various aspects of the work.
